It's my stepson's birthday today. He's 11 and a keen angler.
Thankfully we have a shop full of gifts which appeal to the young angler and older. From caps to Tees, flyboxes and everything in between - choices are only limited by imagination. For a young fella, he's kitted out with almost everything he needs. He already has a rod set up (An Ecko Gecko) and enough of the essential gear. He's tying flies and is confident on the stream, getting out whenever he can. Hmmm, he's misplaced his polarized glasses recently - an essential bit of safety and fishing kit. Eyewear ranges from our Fisherman range at 19.99 to our glass Costas and Smith at the higher end of the spending scale. Matched with some bright "chums" I hope these might not get lost quite as easily!
Our low life long sleeve cotton sweatshirts are only 25 dollars even and look great. I could certainly see him rocking the river in his new sweat.
As he gets older - I know gifts like a custom painted MFC flybox, "flyvine" bracelet or his own Monatan made "blue ribbon" wooden net would be on his wishlist. He'll have to wait until he's 21 to get one of the cool painted hip flasks but by then I expect he'll be rowing me down the Yellowstone rather than the other way around!
Buying gifts that get kids into the outdoors and loving our environment is my favourite thing. Taking a kid fishing is our opportunity to invest and share with the next generation.
