The evening rise on the Gallatin has been a bunch of fun! Not only trout but whitefish have been taking the dry confidently through to dark.
Watch for caddis and sulphers. A rusty spinner will pick up those choosy fish in the tailouts but remeber to fish it deaddrift. Dead flies don't skate.
If you are having short takes consider a wee emerger as a dropper. Particularly a caddis imitation like the silvey's primetime a foot or so off the back of your fly.
Use a nice long leader down to 5x and if possible a downstream drift if positioned in the middle of a pool or the tailout.
Whitefish tend to take splashy so if you are looking for trout, try to see if you can differentiate the rise forms. Have so much fun! It's a great tme for dry flies in the valley right now!!!
