Holiday Gift Ideas- Troutfitters Style!

Flasks: If there’s one thing that fly anglers are known for it’s their tendency to tip back a couple cold ones after (or during) a long day of fishing.  But when it’s 30 degrees out and you need to keep warm a fly anglers best friend can be a flask of the good ol’ stuff.  Thankfully Montana Fly Company understands an anglers need to stay hydrated and has come out with a line of stainless steel hip flasks complete with beautiful art from famous artists in the fly fishing world.  Check out all of the awesome artwork here!

Water Bottles: While water may not be as fun as some of the other hydration options while fishing, it is essential and MFC has done it again, wrapping stainless steel water bottles in some great fish artwork.  Whether it’s a brown trout skin or Willie Nelson holding a steelhead, they have some beautiful pieces sure to please anyone with fish on their brain.  Water Bottles are here!

Coffee Mugs: This one is for the Troutfitters regulars… Coffee is one of the essential necessities in life; so whether you’re going to the river, work, or classes, let everyone know you are part of the Troutfitters Crew… and keep your beloved coffee warm!  Plus if you bring your mug into the shop we’d be happy to fill it up for you (be warned though- shop coffee can be rough)!  Click here to get yours!

Eton Rukus: This is an amazing new product- A speaker system that is water resistant, has a solar panel to self charge, and plays via Bluetooth or USB from your cell phone or iPod.  Did I mention that it can also charge your phone while it plays your favorite tunes?  These are great for the drift boat, backpacking, and everyday use.  Everyone in the shop has picked one up and has had nothing but great things to say about them!  This is a great gift for that person who has everything and the Rukus has made my own Christmas shopping very easy this year!   Check out the Eton Rukus here!

Fly Tying Classes: This is truly is a gift that will keep on giving for years to come.  Learning to tie flies can be a daunting experience; take it from someone who taught themselves… you will teach yourself bad habits.  By learning to tie from an experienced fly tyer you will learn the correct techniques from the beginning.  Classes are taught by the owner Justin King and published fly tyer John McPherson.  We run two beginner sessions starting January 7th or 8th.  We will also be offering a tying class focused solely on tying streamers for those who would like to learn how to tie articulations and those big nasty flies you always see hanging out of the lips of trophy trout.  The streamer class will start February 11th.

The classes are once a week for 5 weeks and generally runs around two hours.  All tools and materials are provided for the classes.  And after the final class a 20% discount is offered storewide on tying material and tools.  For more information or to reserve a spot please check out our Classes and Events page here!

Patagonia Waterproof Handwarmer: This is quickly becoming my favorite fishing accessory when the temperatures dip low.  Patagonia took a page out of the football playbook and created a waterproof hand warmer for the serious fisherman.  This is a great gift if you have a Steelhead junkie in your life or just someone who likes to fish all winter.  Don’t think it’s just for anglers either; I take this out when walking the dog and it’s especially great when duck hunting… (It also happens to fit two beers perfectly). You can find it here!

DVD’s: How do fly anglers pass long winters in front of the tying bench?  Fishing movies.  Take yourself away from the cold wind and snow and bring yourself back to better times when fish are hitting dries and bones are tailing on beautiful ocean flats.  There are a couple great new flicks out this year, the two best by our shop standards are the new Waypoints film from the guys at Confluence and Predator from Gin Clear Media.  Both are sure to take you away to somewhere warmer- or at least fishier.    All DVD’s are here.

Fly Boxes: Another great idea for the hard to shop for angler is fly boxes.  If there’s one thing nobody can have enough of it’s the ever important fly box.  We have boxes for everyone from the dry fly guru, to the meat hucking streamer fanatic.  Click here for all of the boxes we offer.

Spey Fishing: We have been beefing up our spey fishing section as its popularity has grown over the past few years.  If you have someone that you would like to gift with something extra special, a spey rod might be the gift they remember for a lifetime!  There are infinite possibilities, so if you are thinking of diving into the world of spey fishing give the shop a call and we can tailor a package specific to your area of interest!

I hope these ideas will help you out with the angler in your life and please feel free to stop in or give us a call if you’re still stuck on a gift idea for the holidays!  You can reach us at 406-587-4707.

And remember you can always get a gift certificate if you’re truly stuck!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from the entire Troutfitters Crew!
