Salmon Fly Update #5: June 30th, 2018
Gallatin: The Gallatin has been experiencing a good amount of bugs as you move up towards Big Sky. I would head towards deer creek if you are looking to get into the bulk of the hatch. The hatch has rolled through the lower stretches but its passed long enough ago now that you will find that residual bite. Using the water walker or any other low profile stone will find fish. Work the water tight to the banks and be ready for quick hard eats.
Madison: The bugs have worked their way towards the top of the floating stretches. You will still find a few bugs in the lower stretches but they are few and far between. I would head towards lions bridge if you are looking for bugs and floating. I think the better option would be to head to the wade stretch. The bugs should be around west fork and moving up towards pine butte and $3 by the end of the day.
Yellowstone: The bugs are in Emigrant. Might be worth a shot. The water is still high but there is enough visibility that it should be ok. Just use extreme caution when wading or floating. The stone is unforgiving at this flow.
