I designed this fly to imitate tiny sculpins and it was originally tied for use on picky trout in small water. It was first tied it to be stripped and fished like a traditional streamer (which does work) but it is absolutely productive dead-drifted under an indicator. The tungsten head gets it down and the movement from the marabou and rubber legs is extremely enticing. I've been fishing this for a few years now and have had success on everything from spring creeks to the Yellowstone, Gallatin, and Madison rivers. The brown version is a great crayfish imitation, and I imagine the fish are taking the green or black versions as sculpin's or stonefly nymphs. It's a quick tie and I highly recommend having a few in your box!
